Planning a Trip: Best Time to Visit Disney World

With 365 days to choose from, it’s challenging to pick the best time to visit Disney World. Here are some things to consider when planning a trip to the happiest place on earth.

Weather

This is a big one. In my opinion, few things kill Disney magic like extreme heat. Though it’s warm for most of the year, in my experience, November through March is the optimal window of time to visit (though fair warning, even during those months it can get quite warm).

While summer may seem ideal with kids on vacation from school, I would avoid it at all costs. Florida summers make waiting in the hot sun for shows and parades and standing in long lines for rides nearly unbearable. No matter how tiny your clothes and how big your Dole Whip, the heat is bound to make everyone cranky.

Conversely, there’s nothing more magical than enjoying your favorite hot Starbucks drink as you don your favorite sweater down Main Street!

If summer is the only time you can schedule your trip, try arriving at the park just as it opens to ensure you have time to enjoy it before the real heat kicks in. You can also try spending the day at the pool and heading to the park in the late afternoon to avoid that midday sun.

Crowds

Disney World is never not crowded… it’s Disney World. However, you’re more likely to find the largest crowds on holidays, long weekends and Spring Break. If you’re really looking to avoid the masses, you can try visiting Disney during one of its special events. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are two great ones to check out. Though you’ll have limited hours at the park, there are far fewer people, and you’ll be able to see way more in less time. It’s the only time I’ve seen zero wait times on rides like Pirates of the Caribbean!
