Valentine’s Day: Fun, Family-Friendly Ideas

I love celebrating Valentine’s Day with my kids with these fun, family-friendly ideas.

Festive pink balloonsValentine’s Day gets hyped for being romantic. From a lovely color scheme (give me all the pink, please!) and fun decor to sweet treats and more, I find it’s perfect for celebrating with my kids!

Though having time with your partner is important, I encourage you to make February 14th a family affair!

FOOD

Get punny. I love a good pun and letting them inspire our Valentine’s Day meals. I also try to use as many pink, red, heart-shaped things as possible to really get in the spirit!

Here are a few more punny ideas to get you started:

  • You’ll always have a pizza my heart.
  • Love at first bite.
  • I love you berry much.
  • Let’s taco ’bout how much I love.
  • I only have fries for you.
  • We make an eggcellent team.
  • I love you a latte.
  • Ramen love with you.

Make a candy board. You can’t go wrong with a tray full of Valentine’s Day-themed sweets! Besides, adding a little fruit balances it all out, right?

For mom. Write reasons you love your children on heart-shaped paper cutouts and tape them to their bedroom doors. It’s a great way to love and encourage them. This is also a sweet idea for your spouse.

For kids (with mom’s help). There are so many fun Valentine’s Day crafts! We know little ones will enjoy the magic of these DIY Sun-catcher Heart Wings by @aplayfilledlife!

To recreate:

  • cut cardboard into the shape of a heart
  • cut out heart shapes all over the cardboard
  • tape colored cellophane paper onto heart-shaped holes
  • attach string
  • let them fly!

FUN

Doing these things is supposed to be fun. It’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling like we need to be perfect “Pinterest Moms,” especially around the holidays. If baking sugar cookies from scratch, using cookie cutters, and making intricate designs isn’t your thing, it’s ok! Just include your kids. Let them add M&M’s or other favorite candy to some break-and-bake cookie dough.

Pink & white M&M cookiesKids won’t know the difference. They’ll just remember their mom spent time with them, and their family had fun together!
