Spring Things To Do in Miami with Kids: Fresh Air + Simplicity

March in Miami is iconic.

We’ve got the buzz of the Ultra Music Festival, the energy of the Miami Open, the vibrant celebration of the Calle Ocho Festival, and of course… March 5th — 305 Day.

But what about the in-between days?

The random day when the weather is absolutely perfect and you just want to get the kids outside… without the crowds, the parking stress, or the overstimulation?

Spring in Miami is one of the most magical times to slow down and rediscover the simple things. Here are a few kid-friendly, low-stress ways to soak it all in.

Spring afternoons are perfect for nature walks and butterfly spotting with kids.

🌿 Create a Nature Scavenger Hunt at Deering Estate

If you haven’t explored Deering Estate lately, spring is the perfect excuse.

Bring clipboards or just your Notes app and create a simple scavenger hunt:

  • 🌊 Something blue (Biscayne Bay!)
  • 🐚 A shell or interesting rock
  • 🐟 A fisherman casting a line
  • 🌿 Three different leaf shapes
  • 🦀 Signs of wildlife
  • ☁️ A cloud shaped like something funny

Let the kids lead, wander (safely), and ask questions.

The trails are peaceful, the breeze off the water feels like therapy, and it’s one of those places where kids naturally slow down.

🎣 Relax at the People’s Dock

The People’s Dock at Deering Estate is such an underrated gem.

You can:

  • Watch fishermen cast their lines
  • Count boats passing by
  • Bring snacks and sit quietly by the water (careful or those Pelicans might snag some)
  • Practice deep breathing with the kids (“smell the ocean… blow out the candle…”)

Sometimes the best spring memories are the simplest ones — no tickets required.

🌉 Discover the Hidden Chinese Bridge

The Chinese Bridge tucked inside Deering Estate feels like stepping into a secret garden.

I have to be honest, I didn’t know it was there until a few years ago.

Turn it into a storytelling moment:

  • Who do you think built this bridge?
  • What imaginary creatures live underneath it?
  • If we were explorers, what would we name this place?

Kids don’t need elaborate entertainment — they need imagination and space.

🌊 Deering Point: A Quiet Coastal Escape for Families

Tucked inside the grounds of Deering Estate, Deering Point is one of Miami’s most underrated spring gems for families.

No crowds. No chaos. Just open sky, calm water, and that soft March breeze we wait all year for.

This is the kind of place where kids can:

  • Watch kayakers push off into Biscayne Bay
  • Spot fishermen casting lines at golden hour
  • Look for tiny crabs along the shoreline
  • Skip rocks
  • Collect interesting shells
  • Picnic on a blanket with ocean views

It’s also one of the best spots in Miami for slowing down. The city skyline glimmers in the distance, mangroves frame the shoreline, and the water feels almost glass-like in the spring.
