World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness event observed on March 21st. The date symbolizes the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. All over the world, families want to bring awareness to the fact that adults and children with Down syndrome are able. They’re able to dance, and work, and love, and do anything they want to do.

Children with Down syndrome want to be independent. Above all, they want to be allowed to explore and contribute to the world like any other child.

There’s a little girl named Mia that I’ve had the privilege of photographing for a few years. She shows her spunky personality every time I see her and also wants to show me how strong she is. She’s an amazing little girl who loves with her whole heart. You can easily tell that she wants to make a mark in the world around her.

This 4-foot powerhouse is sweet and so fun to be around. On our last photo session, she sat and enjoyed ice cream at Sloan’s in Doral with her momma, her biggest cheerleader. Watching their relationship is an amazing sight. Mom knows this little supergirl has no limitations. As a result, she allows her to explore and play to achieve her goals. One of Mia’s favorite things to do is model and she’s therefore encouraged to move toward her goal every day.
