The Group Chat Isn’t Just Small Talk, It’s Survival

We’ve all had one of those days. When the laundry pile only seems to get higher no matter how many loads you’ve already run, the house feels like a tsunami just hit, dinner still needs to be figured out, and the kids are just not cooperating. And instead of jumping right into it, you find yourself reaching for your phone.

Because sometimes, the difference between a hard day and a manageable one is hearing, “I’m right there with you.”

A Sense of Community

There’s a reason the phrase “it takes a village” has stuck around for so long when it comes to motherhood. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, an entrepreneur, working full time, or somewhere in between, this isn’t something we’re meant to do alone, even if it can feel that way sometimes. And it can be especially difficult for those who have left their country of origin and have limited to no extended family nearby.

It’s what brings a sense of connection to those moments when everything feels like it’s piling up at once.

Because the mental load isn’t just about what needs to get done. It’s everything you’re holding in your head while you’re doing it. From scheduling pickup from dance class to making sure one of you is there for soccer practice, replying to school emails, baking (or buying?) the cupcakes for the bake sale, in essence being the CEO of the family calendar… it’s all there. A constant awareness of who needs what, what’s coming next, and how to keep the day moving without everything unraveling.

Which is why that quick text matters more than it seems.

Being able to tell someone, “This day is a lot,” or send a voice note from the car while you’re half laughing/half exhausted, can sometimes be what pulls you back from the edge of your own meltdown.

It doesn’t take anything off your plate. The to-do list is still there. The kids still need you. The day keeps moving. But something inside of you shifts. Because for a moment, you don’t feel like you’re the only one carrying it.

We tend to think easing the mental load means doing less, getting more help, or finding a better system. And while all of that may remain true, sometimes it’s not what actually makes the biggest difference in the moment.

Sometimes, all you need to hear is, “Same.”
